Everyone deserves to be treated with respect and admiration for seeking help to improve their lives. I approach relationships with clients as a real privilege. I value the chance to work together in a vulnerable and powerful way in the midst of our hectic world. I use humor and creativity to connect and really do enjoy my work.
You don't want to worry about confidentiality and safety, You want to trust someone to have good clinical judgement and communicate clearly. In any of my roles as a licensed psychologist, educator, group facilitator, supervisor, consultant, I am committed to communicating clearly and openly and handling relationships with clear and reliable professionalism.
Every person's journey is unique to them and their intersecting contexts. I rely on my experience, but meet each new client with an open mind. In my nearly 20 years of clinical experience, I have had the opportunity to observe and treat an incredible range of people with different challenges. My hospital experience at Children's Oakland, CPMC and Kaiser has given me a keen sense of different presentations.
Therapy isn't easy work, but I do believe it should feel good. You should look forward to sessions and feel some relief afterwards. You should feel completely comfortable to share what has been going on and evaluate your progress in a non-judgmental space. We can be goal oriented, and still make time to build on strengths and positive aspects in your life. Talking about things and sharing the load really does help.
